Puzzles Truly Stand The Test Of Time

Puzzles and games have been around for so long that there is a five thousand year old painting in an Egyptian tomb depicting a woman sitting at a board playing a game which appears to be a precursor of our “modern” game of chess. As a matter of fact, chess itself dates to at least 700 AD, and is based on an earlier and older game. For nearly all of human history, both recorded and otherwise, humans have invented puzzles, games, and other ways to pass time in an enjoyable manner. Many games which are enjoyed to this day descend from old and ancient versions, suggesting that the activities which humans find enjoyable have not changed all that much in the past few millennial. That being said, there is no denying that when it comes to inventing new puzzles and games, there are always people who are willing to tinker with the classics or venture into uncharted territory. One of the great things about humanity is the sheer happiness with which they pursue activities that bring joy. This is evidenced by the fact that both crossword puzzles and the board games, two extremely popular leisure activities today, both were invented in the past hundred years. And while there have not been a huge number of traditional puzzles and board games launched in that same time frame, it is safe to say that the number of Internet, computer, or video game versions of both new and classic games have been growing exponentially in the years that these mediums have been available. Games which might have been costly or difficult to find in a physical form can now be played inexpensively or for free in the virtual world, allowing millions of people around the world to experience puzzles they might otherwise never have seen. The world continues to move and grow, and puzzles are most definitely here to stay – they have just adapted, as they always have, to suit the changing lifestyles of the people who cherish them.
